My love affair with India and the Far East all started in the early seventies, with a magic bus trip overland to India, which took a year and opened my eyes to the joy of new cultures, with their myriad of colours and sounds.
I could only afford a few items on that first trip, a cashmere shawl from Pakistan, a rug from Afghanistan and wonderful silks and brocades from India.
Over the next couple of years, I spent all my time learning about textiles and how silk, cotton and wool were woven dyed and crafted, and began buying bedcovers, shawls and rugs in traditional designs, which I imported to the UK selling at Camden Lock Market in London.
Ten years ago I met my partner Peter who had been travelling in Morocco buying rugs and copperware. We joined forces to create World Basket, trading and importing beautiful goods from around the world, personally selecting the best products at affordable prices.
Building on our long term relationship with our suppliers, visiting their factories and workshops to source exciting new lines and keeping our current range updated.
We pride ourselves on our commitment to fair and honest trading, ensuring that all our workers are paid a fair wage and work in a clean and safe environment, with no child labour used.
